A soffit is a small, ceiling-like barrier, often installed on the underside of a roof or overhang, that connects the roofing edge to the siding of a home or building. Facia is a thin, flexible weather barrier, typically aluminum, that is installed on the ends of the roof trusses and helps to secure the soffits. While both are most often utilized on a building's exterior, soffits can also be installed under an indoor ceiling to utilize space above cabinets, or at the corner of a ceiling and wall. Today's trends for soffits seemingly follow some of Frank Lloyd Wright's designs, which featured clean, straight edges.
