Arm Lift

Procedure Description:

Brachioplasty, but perhaps better known as arm lift surgery, reduces or removes loose, sagging skin from the upper arm to create a more attractive and toned appearance. Arm lifts are best suited for those patients who have lost an extreme amount of weight.   The skin around our upper arms also tends to sag as we get older.

If the major concern is not loose skin, but excess fat, liposuction is usually the better option.

Time Required:
It takes1 to 2 hours to perform an arm lift surgery.

In/Out Patient Info:
Outpatient.

Side Effects:
Arm lift side effects are the same as those with any surgery.  Arm lifts can cause temporary swelling and discomfort. There is also the chance of permanent scarring.

Risks:
Potential arm lift risks include bruising and prominent scarring. All surgical procedures do carry the risk of infection, bleeding, or reaction to anesthesia.

Duration of Results:
Arm lift results are long lasting, but it does not stop the aging process.  Armlifts are always subject to the changes associated with natural aging process.

Recovery:
Significant healing should be seen in about 10-14 days.  Sutures are usually removed 2-3 weeks after surgery.  After the arm lift surgery, recovery from swelling can take 3-6 months to fully fade.

Insurance Info:
Because of the cosmetic nature of an arm lift, insurance will not be involved.

Discomfort Level:
After the arm lift, pain and discomfort will occur in moderate levels, and may persist for several days. Over-the-counter medication should alleviate any pain experienced.

Anesthesia:
For an arm lift, the anesthesia used is usually general, or in some cases, local anesthesia with sedation.

Can be Combined With:
Arm lift surgery is often combined with tummy tuck, breast lift, and liposuction.
