Breast Lift

Description:
A Breast Lift or Mastopexy is a procedure designed to tighten breasts, making them look more youthful and feminine. Over time, gravity, pregnancy, weight fluctuations and the natural effects of aging; cause breasts to sag and areolas (the pigmented skin around nipples) to enlarge. A breast lift can address these concerns.

The Procedure:
The process involves the removal of skin under the breast and the tightening of skin above it, making the breasts appear more "perky." The nipple is then moved higher up on the breast and if necessary the areola is reduced.

Time Required:
Time requirements vary by case of course, but 1-3 hours is typical for Breast Lift surgery.

In/Out Patient:
Outpatient.

Side Effects:
Sensitivity, bruising and swelling in the breasts are normal. These symptoms generally dissipate within a few days,

Risks:
With all surgeries there is a risk of infection or a negative reaction to the anesthetic. Breasts Lifts specifically run the risk of leaving permanent scars, asymmetrical breast or nipples am a loss of sensitivity in the breast.

Duration of Results:
The results are permanent. However the same factors that caused the original breast lift (gravity, weight) may cause the need for another lift.

Recovery Time:
Patients wear a specially designed bra home. Most patients need about a week before they are ready to return to work and longer than tat to resume exercise. The sutures are removed about 2-3 weeks after surgery.

Insurance:
Insurance does not usually cover this procedure, the one exception being if the Breast Lift is being performed as the result of another medical problem. In that case, the procedure may be covered.

Level of Discomfort:
The level of discomfort associated with breast Lift is minimal and dissipates within a week.

Anesthesia:
For a breast lift, anesthesia of choice may be local with sedation, or general anesthesia.
