Chemical Peels

Description:
Chemical peels are one of the fastest and safest ways to treat unwanted skin conditions. They are most commonly used to treat acne, age spots, blemishes, brown spots, large pores and fine wrinkles. The treatment consists of a special solution tailored to fit your specific needs. This solution acts as a deep exfoliator, removing the top layers of skin and promoting the re-growth of healthy new skin. Chemical peels offer great results with little or no "down-time."

The Procedure:
A solution tailored to fit your needs is applied to the skin breaking down the top layer and stimulating collagen growth underneath the skin. Blemishes are removed with the top layers of skin and collagen growth helps to keep skin healthy. 

Time Required:
Usually about 1-3 hours

Outpatient

Side Effects:
Some redness/rawness in the treatment area is possible. There may also be slight skin flaking.

Risks:
Chemical peels are a safe treatment with few risks. There is the possibility that the chemicals may burn, but even that should be temporary.

Duration of Results:
Dramatic and permanent results are possible after just one or two treatments but other patients may require further treatments to achieve the results they desire.

Recovery Time:
Recovery time varies based on the strength of the peel used. After a more mild peel, patients can resume normal activities immediately. More severe peels may require a week or more for recovery. In all cases the effects can usually be concealed with makeup.

Insurance:
Chemical Peels are a cosmetic procedure not covered by most insurance.

Level of Discomfort:
The level of discomfort varies based on the patient and the strength of the peel. Most patients describe the discomfort as mild even for the strongest peels.
