Facial Peels

Description:
A facial peel is a procedure that removes the top layer of skin. It is performed using varying types and amounts of chemicals. With the top layer of the skin removed this allows a new layer of skin to grow back in its place. This procedure results in a healthier, freshener, smoother looking skin, removes wrinkles, and fine lines. The deeper a facial peel the more the skin that is affected by the renewal/healing process. A medium to deep peel will also stimulate collagen in the deeper skin levels; this results in a firmer skin and reduction or removal of wrinkles.

Time Required:
The time required varies based on the strength of the peel. Light peels take about 30 minutes while heavier peels may take about 2 hours.

Side Effects:
The side effects of a Facial Peel include redness, drying and stinging. These should all abate within a few days.

Risks:
There is the danger of permanent scarring and burning with Facial Peels.

Duration of Results:
The duration of the results vary based on the strength of the peel, light peels usually last about 6 months and heavier peel effects last 1-2 year and longer.

Recovery Time:
With lighter peels there is no downtime, with heavier peels patients may want to wait a day or two for the redness to recede, before returning to work.

Insurance:
Due to the cosmetic nature of facial peels, they are not usually covered by insurance.

Level of Discomfort:
Mild, can be dealt with through over-the-counter pain relievers.
