Juvederm

Procedure Description:

Juvederm ™ is a hyaluronic acid, much like Restylane® or Perlane.  Juvederm is a smooth, injectable gel that fills facial scars, fine lines, wrinkles, and facial creases.  Juvederm flows easily into the skin, creating a more natural look and can increase natural collagen production and keep exiting collagen from deteriorating.  Juvederm is also proven safe and effective with patients of all skin types and colors.

The biggest difference between Juvederm and Restylane is in how long it lasts.  Juvederm can maintain a more youthful appearance for up to six months or more.  The manufacturer of Juvederm offers two alternative brands: Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus, which are purported to last up to one whole year.

Time Required:

Usually about 30 minutes, depending on the treatment area.

Side Effects:

Possible side effects are temporary and can include redness, swelling, bumps, firmness, and itching around the injection sites.

Duration of Results:
Juvederm results typically last about four to six months.  Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus may last up to a year. Injections need to be repeated periodically in order to maintain results over a longer period of time.

Recovery:

Patients are usually able to return to normal activity the same day as their Juvederm injection.

Discomfort Level:

As with most dermal injectables, patients may experience varying levels of discomfort with Juvederm. In most cases, any ongoing pain tends to subside within the first week.

Anesthesia:

Anesthesia is not necessary prior to a Juvederm injection. However, some medical professionals do prefer numbing the treatment area ahead of time with a topical or injectable anesthesia.
