Liposuction

Description:
Liposuction or Suction-Assisted Lipectomy is used to reduce fat and accentuate contouring in targeted areas of the body. Liposuction is not an alternative to weight -loss, instead, it is used to reduce fat in areas that have been resistant to diet and exercise; most commonly the thighs, buttocks, and abdomen

The Procedure:
The process involves a small incision, which is then used to "suck out" fat. There are many variations on the process including tumescent, fluid injection, ultrasound-assisted, and super-wet techniques.

Time Required:
The time required to perform Liposuction can vary based on the amount of fat being removed and the method use. One hour is typical.

Outpatient

Side Effects:
The temporary side effects of Liposuction may include, numbness, swelling, bruising, discomfort and limited mobility.

Risks:
All invasive procedures carry with them some risks. The dangers specific to Liposuction include: Asymmetry, pigmentation change, and loss of sensitivity

Duration of Results:
The results of Liposuction are considered permanent although its effects may be mitigated if the patient gains additional weight.

Recovery Time:
Most patients feel well enough to return to work about 1- 2 weeks after the procedure. Totally recovery will be achieved within 2-3 months.

Insurance:
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure, not usually covered by insurance.

Level of Discomfort:
There will be mild pain following the procedure, but this can be easily managed with painkillers.

Anesthesia:
Either general anesthesia or local with sedation will be employed.
