Microdermabrasion

Description:
Microdermabrasion is designed to lessen the appearance of blemishes and fine lines. It is effective at treating acne, scars, blemishes, age spots, large pores, and wrinkles. While not the most effective treatment for some of these conditions it has the advantage of being quick, and effective with no "downtime."

The Procedure:
Microdermabrasion consists of a controlled spray of aluminum oxide that is applied to the skin, removing the top layers and revealing the healthier younger looking skin underneath.

Time Required:
Microdermabrasion treatments usually takes about 30-45 minutes to perform. The number of treatments required varies based on the severity of the skin damage.

Outpatient.

Side Effects:
There is usually slight dryness and flaking for a few days after treatment.

Risks:
Microdermabrasion has the advantage of carrying fewer risks than treatments that affect the lower lays of skin, those treatment carry the risk of scaring. Since Microdermabrasion only affects the top layer of skin, this is not a concern.

Duration of Results:
The duration of the results vary based on the severity of the skin damage and the number of treatments administered,

Recovery Time:
There is no recovery time from Microdermabrasion; patients can continue normal activities immediately following the treatment.

Insurance:
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure not usually covered by insurance.

Microdermabrasion is a gentle procedure, with most patients experiencing little or no pain.
