Mini Tummy Tuck

Description:
As the name would suggest, a mini-tummy tuck is a slightly more conservative approach to the same methodology behind the full tummy tuck. In a mini-tummy tuck, the lower abdomen is contoured, removing the excess fat and raising loose skin located below the belly button. This procedure can be especially helpful for women after a pregnancy, or for anyone coming off of a considerable weight loss, and the loose skin it leaves behind. Stomach muscles can also be tightened with a mini-tummy tuck, thought this is accomplished more effectively with a full tummy tuck.

The Procedure:
Performed by a skilled cosmetic surgeon, a mini-tummy tuck is intended to contour or shape the patient's lower abdomen. The skin is repositioned and tightened during surgery, but among the types of tummy tuck, the mini leaves the smallest scar.

Time Required:
The time need for a mini-tuck surgery can vary wildly, anywhere from 1-3 hours, depending on the extent of the work.

Side Effects / Risks:
Like most surgical procedures, patients will have some temporary swelling, pain, and numbness. There is also the risk of infection, scarring, and reaction to anesthesia.

Duration of Results:
Results of the mini-tummy tuck are generally permanent, unless affected in the future by major weight changes or pregnancy.

Recovery Time:
Patients are asked to wear a compression garment for 2-3 weeks following a mini-tummy tuck. Strenuous activity should also be avoided for a full month after surgery.

Insurance:
As a cosmetic treatment, a mini-tummy tuck will rarely be covered by any insurance.

Level of Discomfort:
Anesthesia is usually adminstered during the surgery. During recovery, pain is usually mild and easily treated with basic pain medication.
