Sculptura™

Procedure Description:
Sculptura™ is not like other dermal fillers, which merely add volume.  Sculptura is a synthetic polymer of polylactic acid (PLA), which when injected deep into the layers of skin, induces the formation of collagen. Sculptura is then completely reabsorbed (digested) within several weeks, however, the new collagen that has formed will last and last. This is also very different from standard injectable collagen; regular collagen shots are derived from bovine tissue or synthetically.  This can often cause allergic reactions.  Additional collagen injections are absorbed completely within 4-6 months. The new collagen formed by Sculptura has been shown to be present after 5 years of initial treatment.

Sculptura is used to treat sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes, as well as increasing in skin thickness.

Time Required:

Sculpture injections can typically be completed in 30 minutes.

Risks:

The typical risks apply to Sculptura: bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising, or swelling. One specific side effect with Sculptra® can be the formation of small bumps under the skin in the treated area.  These bumps tend to happen within the first 6 to 12 months after the first treatment, and can go away on their own.

Duration of Results:

In a clinical study, the treatment results in most patients for Sculptura lasted for up to 2 years after the first treatment session.

Discomfort Level:

There is a slight stinging sensation that accompanies an injection of a dermal filler.  Most aesthetic professionals apply a topical numbing cream to the area before treatment.
