The idea of self-performed plastic surgery makes me cringe. It doesn't take much thought to figure out why this is a terrible idea; contamination, infection, imprecise applications, the list goes on and on. Recently a few stories have surfaced about people purchasing products online and performing plastic surgery on themselves; the results have been dangerous and devastating.

The most recent story is about Mary, a 54 year old woman with a public career who sought to plump her lips and fill a facial scar. Mary had visited a plastic surgeon for this procedure once before. She loved the results and thought of it as a simple and relatively painless procedure. After briefly searching the internet, she purchased silicone for only ten dollars and set off to perform the procedure on her own.
Instead of using medical-grade silicone, Mary injected her face with personal lubricant. Her failed attempt to save money, resulted in a massive infection, painful swelling and unattractive scaring. Instead of saving a few dollars, Mary now has the enormous expense of having it removed and will require some reconstruction to repair the damage she has caused.
Nobody should jeopardize their health by attempting a self performed surgical procedure. If you're interested in plastic surgery but concerned about cost, take the time to talk to a plastic surgeon; many have payment plans available, or are willing to offer discounted services for first time patients or referrals.
Once again, it's almost time for the annual Academy Awards! I think of it as that magical event that brings movie buffs and pop culture lovers together again to celebrate Hollywood's talent, love of fashion, and of course, its unbelievable (or perhaps believable) physical flawlessness. Some of the top nominees for the 81st Academy Awards showcase, not only some of the best acting chops in the business, but also some impressive feats of cosmetic enhancement.
Well, dear-hearts, I've been feeling a tad guilty about how I came down on the lovely Lisa Rinna in the last blog. While I stand by her assertion that she went a little filler-happy in the cheekbone region, I think her juicy pucker is to die for. So, in that line, I decided to write a little ode to lip augmentation, and list some of my personal favorite pairs of celebrity lips!
Hello, my darlings. Hope the new year is off to a good start for you! Just thought I'd pop in after reading the latest Lisa Rinna admission about some regrettable plastic surgery choices she's made. Now, this soap opera starlet has been known for her pillowy lips and enhanced bosoms for many years now; but recently, some gossip mags and now Rinna herself have claimed she's taken plastic surgery too far.
It's a brand new year, my darlings! That means new possibilities, fresh starts and new outlooks for all. When it comes to those uplifting and simultaneously dreaded New Year's resolutions, people's goals for the new year can range from breaking through personal fitness barriers, to working on organizational skills, to trying to swear less in mixed company, to yes, physical and cosmetic enhancement. Thus, a new year is a new opportunity to tackle pesky weight issues, treat skin problems, and examine the many options in unwanted hair removal.
Now, if some of you (and by some of you, I mean you, me and the entire heterosexual female population) are guilty of ogling People's newly dubbed "Sexiest Man Alive" Hugh Jackman, I'm sure you've heard related buzz about the re-emergence of male chest hair as a sexy attribute.
