How Young is too Young for Breast Implants?

There's a lot of heated debate about what the appropriate age is for breast enhancement surgery. The problem is that it really should be decided on a case-by-case basis. It's hard to make a sweeping rule about who is ready and who isn't. It's not about whether or not 19-year-old girls in general are ready for breast implants, but is this particular girl ready? Personally, I would say that anyone under 21 is too young, but there's always an exception. One of my best girl friends received breast augmentation as a high school graduation present! Now my friend, let's call her Nola, was always very self-conscious about her chest size (her size in general really as she was and still is very petite). It showed up in the way she held herself and the way she interacted with people. After her surgery, Nola really came out of her shell, the private Nola I knew and loved is now the Nola everyone knows and loves. I think she only went up a cup size, but a cup size can go a long ways in confidence.

What's the Best Age for Breast Augmentation?

Breast implants for teenage girls is something that requires a lot of thinking. Breast implants should never be considered a quick fix for any situation. Any girl under 17 is just way too young, physically and emotionally for breast augmentation. Girls that are 18 or 19 may be mentally prepared for implants, but it's entirely possible that she's not done growing at that age. Most of us do finish growing in high school, but everyone knows a late bloomer who developed well into college. For parents who are looking to buy their daughter breast implants a wait-and-see policy is always advisable. After she turns 20 or 21 and she still wants breast enhancement surgery then it might be something to seriously consider. Don't be swayed by pouting lips and foot stomps, it's up to you to make a well thought out decision.

Breast Enhancement Should be Performed for the Right Reasons

The key to breast enhancement surgery for anyone--young or old--is doing it for the right reasons. Your cosmetic surgery should be done for you, to make you feel better about your own self-image. Not for a guy or for attention or any other reason. And just because a breast implant worked for Nola, doesn't mean it will work for everyone. A breast enhancement isn't a therapy session and might not even add that confidence boost you were looking for. You might even realize you don't want to be in that kind of spotlight. But Nola has always said that she knows that it sounds so silly and trivial, and even though she still can't fully explain it, but it's something that made her happy and she has zero regrets about. In the end, you can't argue with happiness.

For parents looking to buy their teen an expensive graduation present, why not go with a car? If she still wants breast enhancement then there's always a college graduation to look forward to.

Your friend,

Mia :)
